Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to take ownership of the technical delivery of commercial-scale solar PV projects from initial concept through to commissioning.
You will combine strong design expertise with hands-on project oversight, construction support and client engagement to ensure every installation meets the required performance, quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Site Surveys & Feasibility
- Conduct detailed site assessments across rooftop, ground-mount and carport installations.
- Assess available space, cable routing, shading and client consumption profiles.
- Evaluate technical feasibility and translate findings into actionable design inputs.
System Design & Documentation
- Develop comprehensive solar PV design packs, including layouts, single-line diagrams and detailed specifications.
- Produce BOQs, datasheets, schematics, cable schedules and technical reports.
- Prepare and review designs using AutoCAD.
Simulation & Optimisation
- Perform energy yield simulations using PVsyst and Helioscope.
- Optimise array orientation, tilt, string configurations and inverter loading.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable SANS, NRS, SSEG and municipal standards.
Project Coordination & Costing
- Work closely with commercial and procurement teams to validate pricing, logistics and labour requirements.
- Review CAPEX/OPEX models.
- Support the preparation of accurate technical and commercial proposals.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Conduct regular site visits throughout installation.
- Verify compliance with approved designs and provide technical guidance to installation teams.
- Assist with resolving technical issues on site.
- Support commissioning activities, including performance testing and SCADA/data logging verification.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with electrical codes, NRS, SANS, grid-connection requirements and safety standards.
- Implement QA/QC processes, lessons learned and engineering best practices.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key technical interface for clients, utilities and inspectors.
- Address technical queries and provide project progress updates.
- Coordinate with internal teams to support seamless project delivery.
Innovation & Continuous Development
- Stay up to date with developments in solar PV and BESS technologies.
- Maintain and improve engineering templates, standards and processes.
- Identify solutions that improve project efficiency, consistency and quality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Renewable Energy Engineering – BEng or BTech.
- Minimum 5 years’ end-to-end C&I solar PV project engineering experience.
- Proven experience in pre-construction design.
- ECSA registration as a Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech Eng is advantageous but not mandatory.

- Analysis: Advanced Excel, including financial and technical modelling
- Standards: SANS 10142-1, NRS 097 and municipal grid-tie requirements
