About the Job

We are seeking a highly focused and organised individual to join our client’s South Africa team. As a dedicated team player, you will support your colleagues in both execution and technical guidance, playing a crucial role in delivering high-quality consultancy projects. Your strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and conflict resolution skills will be essential as you approach challenges with innovative thinking.

In this position, you will serve as a Solar and/or Wind expert, providing valuable technical guidance to our client’s international customers. You’ll quickly become the main point of contact for these clients and take on full responsibility for delivering successful consultancy projects. Based in the Cape Town office, you will have the flexibility to work from home a few days a week while collaborating with teams to maintain a leading market position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Typical Services You Will Be Involved In:

  • Managing technical due diligence assignments and guiding clients through the financial close phase.
  • Overseeing the EPC & O&M tender preparation and supporting contract negotiations.
  • Leading feasibility studies and ensuring thorough project assessments.
  • Reviewing overall project design and recommending potential improvements.

Your Tasks Will Include:

  • Managing and executing high-quality technical advisory services.
  • Providing technical input from initial assessments through to technical and economic feasibility.
  • Reviewing project permits and design to ensure compliance and optimization.
  • Reviewing and negotiating key construction contracts.
  • Supporting sponsors and lenders throughout the financial close process.
  • Coordinating with legal, insurance, and financial advisors.
  • Assessing technical risks and proposing strategies to mitigate risks related to project CAPEX, OPEX, and revenue generation.
  • Monitoring project construction, commissioning, and acceptance.
  • Overseeing the project during its operational phase.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Permanent residency in South Africa.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Master's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the solar and/or wind industry, ideally in consultancy, with a minimum of 5 years in renewable energy overall.
  • Extensive experience in technical due diligence for solar and/or wind projects, including PV EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind Turbine contracts (EPC, WTG supply, O&M, PPA) as a Lender’s/Owner’s technical advisor.
  • Hands-on experience with technical inspections of solar and wind turbines and construction monitoring.
  • Involvement in reviewing onsite project acceptance testing and commissioning performed by suppliers.
  • Experience in Solar and Wind resource assessment and/or financial modeling is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and utilize multiple software tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style for different audiences.
  • Willingness to travel for short trips within Africa if required.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience supervising met mast installations and following up on measurement campaigns.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Fluency in French and/or Portuguese.
