Job Description
A growing renewable energy consultancy is looking to appoint a driven and technically capable Grid Engineer to support the successful delivery of utility-scale projects. This role is suited to someone who thrives on managing the technical grid connection aspects of renewable developments and is ready to grow into a subject matter expert within a high-performance team.
The successful candidate will work across the full project lifecycle—offering technical advisory, modelling, compliance support, and stakeholder engagement. You’ll assist clients in navigating grid connection processes, understanding South African grid requirements, and ensuring technical robustness across solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (BSc / BEng / BTech).

3 to 4+ years’ experience with large-scale renewable energy projects (≥10 MW).

Registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng.

Hands-on knowledge of Eskom and municipal grid connection procedures.

Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, ETAP, or PSCAD.

Strong written communication and stakeholder management skills.

Able to work independently and manage multiple technical deliverables.

Willingness to travel nationally as required.

Valid driver’s license.
Desirable Skills & Experience

Background in hybrid and battery energy storage systems integration.

Familiarity with contract interfaces and technical schedules for EPC or O&M agreements.

Experience with SADC or regional cross-border transmission systems.

Previous consulting or client-facing experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Grid Connection & Technical Delivery

Conduct and lead grid studies including load flow, fault analysis, dynamic stability, and power quality assessments.

Compile and review technical documents for grid compliance submissions in accordance with South African Grid Codes and NERSA regulations.

Support the design review and specification of HV/MV substations, overhead lines, and cabling for solar PV, wind, and BESS projects.

Liaise with Eskom and municipalities to facilitate connection applications and ensure regulatory alignment.
Project Advisory & Technical Insight

Provide technical guidance during feasibility studies, grid compliance reviews, and lender technical due diligence.

Assist clients in interpreting national grid codes and applying NRS and SANS standards to project planning.

Support the development of technical content for EPC, O&M, and grid-related contractual documents.
Team Contribution & Knowledge Sharing

Mentor junior staff and contribute to the development of internal tools, templates, and modelling frameworks.

Share technical and regulatory insights with colleagues to strengthen team capabilities and enhance service delivery.
