Job Description
We are seeking a technically strong SCADA Engineer to support the design, configuration, and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems (SAS) across transmission and distribution projects.
This role involves working across the full project lifecycle — from design and engineering through to site commissioning — ensuring reliable integration of SCADA, RTU, and communication systems for grid infrastructure.
SCADA systems enable remote monitoring and control of substations and power systems, integrating IEDs, RTUs, and communication networks into a central control environment.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA & SAS Design
- Design and develop SCADA and Substation Automation Systems (SAS) for HV/MV substations
- Configure and engineer:
- RTUs
- HMIs / SCADA platforms
- IED integration
- Develop and review system architecture, network topology, and communication layouts
- Ensure compliance with IEC standards and client specifications
Configuration & Integration
- Configure and integrate:
- SCADA systems
- RTUs and gateways
- Protection relays (IEDs)
- Work with communication protocols such as:
- IEC 61850
- IEC 60870-5-101/104
- DNP3
- Modbus
Testing & Commissioning
- Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Execute on-site commissioning and system validation
- Troubleshoot and resolve system integration and communication issues
- Support energisation and handover of systems
Network & Communication Systems
- Design and implement industrial communication networks
- Configure switches, routers, and network infrastructure for SAS
- Ensure secure and reliable data communication between substations and control centres
Project & Stakeholder Support
- Support project delivery across design → commissioning phases
- Collaborate with:
- Design engineers
- Protection engineers
- Contractors and OEMs
- Provide technical input and support to clients
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare:
- Functional design specifications (FDS)
- Network diagrams
- Test reports and commissioning documentation
- Maintain accurate project and system documentation
Minimum Requirements
- BSc Eng / BEng in Electrical Engineering
- 2 – 5 years’ experience in:
- SCADA / SAS design
- Substation automation projects
- Practical experience with:
- Configuration
- Testing & commissioning on-site
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Substation Automation Systems (SAS)
- Power system automation and control
- Experience with:
- SCADA platforms (e.g. WinCC, MicroSCADA, Wonderware, Ignition)
- RTUs and IED integration
- Knowledge of:
- Communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus)
- Network design and industrial communications
- Advantageous:
- OEM experience (ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, Schneider)
- Consulting engineering experience
