An office‐based O&M Manager acts like the “air‐traffic controller” for a group of solar and battery sites—they monitor system performance from a central hub, use data tools to spot trends or faults, plan and coordinate maintenance across multiple locations, manage budgets/contracts, and report results to clients. A site‐based O&M Manager is the hands‐on leader on the ground at a single plant—they’re out in the yard every day, supervising and sometimes doing the maintenance work, troubleshooting equipment in real time, running safety briefings, and liaising with technicians and inspectors on site. In short, the office role focuses on big‐picture performance, planning, and portfolio oversight, while the site role focuses on day‐to‐day operations and technical fixes at one facility.

Some duties are handled exclusively by the office-based O&M Manager and not by site-based staff, and vice versa. For example, portfolio-wide activities such as negotiating O&M service contracts, preparing high-level performance reports for clients, optimizing maintenance strategies across multiple projects, and managing O&M financials (budgeting and invoicing) are typically done by the office-based manager and

• Daily Responsibilities: “Walk me through a typical day in your most recent O&M management position. How much time did you spend in the office handling planning or monitoring versus out in the field at the plant?”

• Asset Monitoring Tools: “What tools or software have you used to monitor solar PV or BESS performance? Have you worked with centralized monitoring platforms or SCADA systems, and were you monitoring a fleet of sites remotely or primarily one site on-site?”

• Maintenance Role: “Were you responsible for planning maintenance activities (scheduling and coordinating crews) or for executing/supervising the maintenance work on the ground? Can you give an example, such as creating a preventive maintenance plan versus leading a team to replace an inverter in the field?”

• Team Leadership: “Tell us about the teams you’ve led. Did you manage other managers or engineers across multiple locations, or were you directly supervising a crew of technicians at a site? How many people did you oversee, and in what capacity?”

• Client Interaction: “What has been your involvement in client communications and reporting? For example, have you been the one preparing and presenting performance reports to asset owners and negotiating O&M terms, or have you mostly interacted with clients during site visits and day-to-day operations at a plant?”

• Technical Problem-Solving: “Describe a significant technical issue you have handled in a solar farm or BESS. Were you personally on-site troubleshooting and resolving the issue, or were you coordinating the response and guiding a team remotely?”

• Compliance and Safety: “What safety or regulatory responsibilities have you handled? Have you developed and enforced O&M safety procedures at a company-wide level, or have you been the on-site safety accountable person ensuring daily work is compliant with regulations?”

• Certifications and Training: “Which technical certifications or training do you hold (for example, electrical licenses, high-voltage operation authorizations, or safety certifications)?
