Job Description

We are seeking an inventive Industrial Designer & Prototype Manager to spearhead the design, development, and validation of our client's next-generation couch recliners. In this pivotal role, you will transform concepts into production-ready prototypes, ensuring every design meets our high standards for quality, functionality, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop furniture designs that balance comfort, support, and durability.

  • Apply ergonomic principles to optimize user experience.

  • Select and test materials (wood, metal, foam, fabrics, leather) for both aesthetics and performance.

  • Integrate and validate recliner mechanisms (manual and electric) for safety, stability, and reliability.

  • Create and iterate prototype designs using tools like Inventor, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.

  • Produce high-quality 3D models and renderings to communicate concepts across teams.

  • Lead rapid prototyping efforts (3D printing, CNC machining, handcrafting).

  • Plan and execute functionality, safety, and stress tests, incorporating stakeholder feedback.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to scale prototypes into full production.

  • Manage cost estimates, quality control checkpoints, and supply chain coordination.

  • Identify opportunities to refine designs or streamline manufacturing processes.

  • Tackle technical challenges with creative, cost-effective solutions.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ hands‑on experience in prototype creation—preferably within furniture or consumer products.

  • Proven track record managing prototypes from concept through testing and refinement.

  • At least 2 years’ experience designing furniture, with emphasis on reclining chairs, sofas, or related products.

  • Familiarity with upholstery techniques and mechanical component integration.

  • Background in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or related discipline.

  • Proficient in CAD (Inventor, AutoCAD) and 3D modelling tools; experience with structural integrity and materials testing.

  • Experience liaising with manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers to source materials and oversee prototype production.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and cost-management in small-scale runs.

  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and iterate through complex design challenges.

  • Strong analytical skills to refine products via iterative prototyping and user feedback.

Why Join Us?

  • Be at the forefront of designing industry‑leading furniture innovations.

  • Work in a collaborative environment where creativity and technical excellence drive success.

  • Opportunity to shape the full product lifecycle—from initial sketches to factory floor.

If you’re passionate about blending design, engineering, and craftsmanship to create standout furniture, we’d love to hear from you!
