Job Description

The Project Engineer plays a key role in leading the technical and commercial development of renewable energy projects. This includes conducting site assessments, driving feasibility studies, managing procurement processes, and maintaining strong engagement with clients throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for bringing projects from concept to contract, ensuring that each one is strategically aligned, financially sound, and technically feasible.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead development of renewable energy projects across multiple commercial and industrial sites, including:

  • Site and stakeholder assessments

  • Gathering technical and operational data

  • Defining client requirements and success criteria

  • Conducting yield analyses and financial feasibility modelling

  • Navigating permitting and technical due diligence

  • Providing clear reporting and maintaining client relationships

• Facilitate and lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including agenda setting and minute-taking

• Manage procurement processes:

  • Prepare and issue tender documentation

  • Liaise with EPCs and IPPs on technical and commercial requirements

  • Lead tender evaluations and recommendations

• Support ad hoc technical and commercial analyses as required

• Interface with construction and operations teams to ensure alignment through the project lifecycle

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement tools, processes, and methodologies

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering

• At least 1.5 years’ experience in solar PV project engineering within South Africa’s C&I embedded generation market

• Solid understanding of renewable energy project economics and financial drivers

• Excellent communication and organisational skills

• Valid driver’s licence

Advantageous:

• Experience in financial modelling of solar PV or battery storage systems

• Project management certification

• Experience in PV system design or draughting

• Familiarity with Google Workspace
