Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for an ambitious finance, economics, accounting or engineering graduate/professional looking to build a long-term career in renewable energy, infrastructure finance and deal execution.

This role is ideal for someone who wants exposure to active renewable energy transactions across Africa and is eager to grow into a project finance, corporate finance and M&A transactor within the large-scale renewable energy sector.

You will work closely with an experienced executive management team and gain hands-on exposure to renewable energy projects across South Africa and other African markets. This is a high-learning, high-performance environment suited to someone analytical, commercially curious, hardworking and motivated by the opportunity to build a meaningful career in a growing industry.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will support the origination, structuring, execution and management of renewable energy transactions across technologies such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass.

The role will involve working on corporate and project finance transactions, power purchase agreements, M&A opportunities, tender submissions, project due diligence, investment materials and commercial strategy.

Over time, the candidate will be developed to take on increasing responsibility and eventually manage transactions across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial modelling, including preparing models, running scenarios and advising on commercial outcomes
  • Supporting transaction structuring for renewable energy projects
  • Assisting with technical, environmental, legal, tax and financial due diligence processes
  • Preparing and contributing to renewable energy tender submissions, including finance-related sections
  • Preparing investment committee submissions, investment summaries and supporting materials
  • Preparing banker project teasers and project information memoranda
  • Researching and preparing investment rationales on energy markets across African countries
  • Performing credit reviews on corporate power purchasers and offtakers
  • Preparing and modelling offtaker demand curves to support optimal system sizing and cost-saving calculations for C&I projects
  • Scoping and coordinating independent tax advice for financial modelling purposes
  • Supporting commercial and legal contract negotiations, including engagement with external advisors and law firms
  • Contributing to business strategy and market development initiatives
  • Supporting business development, opportunity identification and transaction origination

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering or a related discipline
  • CA(SA), CFA progress, MBA or similar qualifications would be advantageous
  • Financial modelling experience or strong Excel-based analytical capability
  • High competence in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong analytical ability, with the capacity to simplify complex problems into practical steps
  • Excellent English reading, writing and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • A genuine interest in renewable energy, infrastructure finance and African energy markets
  • The ability to perform under pressure in a high-performance environment
  • A positive mindset, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Willingness and excitement to travel across Africa

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role would suit a junior to mid-level candidate from one of the following backgrounds:

  • Project finance
  • Corporate finance
  • M&A
  • Investment analysis
  • Transaction advisory
  • Infrastructure finance
  • Renewable energy development
  • IPP or energy market analysis
  • Big 4 deals, valuations or transaction services
  • Banking, private equity or infrastructure investment

Renewable energy experience is advantageous, but not essential if the candidate has strong financial modelling, analytical and commercial fundamentals.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to build a career in renewable energy transactions from the ground up. The successful candidate will gain exposure to live deals, senior decision-makers, project finance structures, African energy markets and the full lifecycle of renewable energy project development and investment.

For someone ambitious, analytical and willing to put in the work, this role offers a strong platform for long-term growth in renewable energy, infrastructure finance and transaction execution.
