The Commissioning Manager will lead and oversee the commissioning phase of a large utility-scale solar PV project, ensuring safe, compliant, and technically correct energisation of the full electrical balance-of-plant (E-BoP), PV arrays, inverters, SCADA/communications systems, and substation/HV equipment (where applicable).
This role acts on behalf of the Employer to verify that the EPC contractor’s commissioning activities comply with:

EPC contract requirements

Approved design drawings and engineering standards

Grid-code and utility requirements

Quality plans, commissioning procedures & ITPs

HSSE guidelines and safe energisation practices

Project schedule and energisation milestones
You will ensure that each subsystem and system meets operational, safety, and performance criteria before sign-off and acceptance.
Minimum Requirements

BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering

ECSA registration as PrEng or PrTechEng
-
Mandatory: Relevant experience in Solar PV commissioning and strong grounding in project management fundamentals

8+ years of relevant engineering and commissioning experience

Must have worked on at least five (5) solar PV projects in a commissioning management role for EPC companies, IPPs, or OE firms

Strong electrical engineering background, especially in:

PV inverters & MV systems
-
HV/LV integration
-
Protection & control
-
HV substation energisation
-
SCADA and communication systems
-
Experience working within multi-cultural teams on large project sites

Excellent knowledge of commissioning processes, testing protocols, energisation sequences, and performance validation

Strong documentation and reporting skills — especially for punch lists, test sheets, sign-offs, and handover packs

Proven risk management capability: identifying, assessing, and proactively mitigating technical, safety, and commissioning risks throughout the project lifecycle

Strong communication and coordination skills with EPC, O&M, utilities, engineers, and site management.
