In this role, you'll be responsible for providing exceptional support to their clients, including developers, IPPs, banks, investors, and more. Your work will focus on project follow-up reporting, design and technology reviews, and energy yield estimations for utility-scale solar PV or wind projects. As you grow in the role, you'll receive training in conducting feasibility studies, both from the office and through site inspections.
You will become an integral part of their consultancy team, gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic world of solar PV/BESS and/or wind energy. Initially, you'll contribute as an expert on a project led by one of your colleagues, with the opportunity to gradually take on the role of project manager as you advance.
You will report within their Africa team, collaborating closely with Due Diligence experts, Owner's Engineers, and Resource Assessment specialists.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct technical feasibility studies for projects.
- Oversee and manage the entire project lifecycle from initiation to completion.
- Manage ongoing construction projects and provide regular progress reports.
- Review project contracts, designs, and technology, offering recommendations for potential improvements.
- Perform energy yield calculations using industry-standard software tools as well as internal tools and processes.
- Report project status and updates to clients and lenders.
- Conduct site inspections before, during, and after project construction.
- Communicate directly with clients, both in writing and verbally.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience (Master's degree is a plus).
- 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in the renewable energy sector.
- Experience with technical due diligence for SOLAR/BESS and/or WIND projects.
- Familiarity with reviewing contracts such as PV EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind Turbine contracts (EPC, WTG supply, O&M, PPA), particularly as a Lender’s/Owner’s technical advisor.
- Proven experience working with Lenders and Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
- Experience conducting technical inspections for solar and/or wind turbine projects and monitoring construction.
- Involvement in both feasibility studies and project execution phases, including technical assessments, performance analysis, and system optimization.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new software tools.A critical mindset with the ability to question assumptions and ideas.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery.
- Clear and concise communicator, able to adapt your communication style for different audiences.
- Fluent in both spoken and written English.
- A genuine interest in renewable energy and sustainability.
- Valid working permit for South Africa.
Additional Qualities that Set You Apart:
- Previous experience in a consultancy firm.
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of software tools such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, PVCase, WindPro, DigSilent, Homer, etc.
- Willingness to travel for short trips abroad.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., French, Portuguese).
